Today I got this e-mail. They put e-mail addresses and date of births of there users on there website

What You Can Do

You shouldn’t need to do anything - the data is no longer being leaked and no passwords were leaked so you do not need to change your password.

Really? The data is no longer leaked? That is what you are telling your customers? No sorry? No excuse that you gave away the personal data and that it will stay forever on the internet?

I like #MusicBrainz but this is silly and dosn't reflect the seriousness of what happened.

Luckily for accounts like this I use special crafted e-mail addresses. And I don't give away any personal data like birthdays.

This morning I got a mail, too.

Also interesting/confusing I find this paragraph

Had 500 citizens of the state of California had their data leaked we would be required by law to notify the state of the breach [3]. We cannot know for certain if 500 citizens of California were involved in this breach, since we do not know where our users live. Furthermore, email addresses and dates of birth do not seem to be covered by the requirement to file a notice, unless accompanied by passwords, which did not leak in this case. However, we are still notifying the state of California about this breach, as a precautionary measure, even though we do not believe that we are required to do so.
